About Us In February of 2001, over two thousand women participated in the Imagine Peace Conference in Washington, DC. They gathered to examine ways to contribute, both individually and collectively, to a more peaceful world in the new millennium. Based on the premise that peace begins with the individual, those in attendance joined together in a journey of discovery to find ways to foster inner peace and to awaken to their unlimited potential to create peaceful communities filled with mutual respect and understanding. United in the realization that women represent a deep, but largely untapped reservoir of wisdom and unique talents, participants also discussed strategies to empower women to become global peacemakers. After a day full of rich dialogue and many newfound friends, everyone left with a new sense of purpose to go home and make a difference. It was in this inspired environment that the Imagine Peace Network was conceived. Although still in its infancy, the vision is to establish an international network of people who are committed to creating a culture of peace. How this will be achieved will be determined by the imagination, collaboration and determination of each person who becomes a connection in the Imagine Peace Network. We hope you will share your vision and join us in this noble quest. The Imagine Peace Network was
initiated by the Buddhist Society for the Creation of Value (SGI-USA) and
is inspired by long-standing Buddhist traditions of non-violence and respect
for all living beings. Based on the belief that all human beings possess
boundless potential and that all life is interconnected, Buddhism teaches
that when people are able to awaken to their deeper identity as a human
being, a revolution in consciousness takes place that enables individuals
to begin to see the similarities that bond humanity together rather than
focusing on the differences that separate. However, the
Imagine Peace Network is non-sectarian and non-partisan. Comprised
of people from many races and religions, we invite you to join together
with us to create a century of peace.
